On Wednesday, Shetland fans will tune in to watch Jimmy Perez’s final episode in the BBC drama. It is unclear how the detective will leave the show, but it is set to be an emotional one. The actor who plays Jimmy, Douglas Henshall made the decision to leave Shetland as he felt the detective’s story had come to an end. However, his onscreen sidekick Alison “Tosh” McIntosh, admitted she was “bereft” by her co-star’s decision to leave.

Paying a heartfelt to Douglas, actress Alison O’Donnell said he made her feel so welcome when she first joined the BBC series.

“Dougie was totally amazing,” the Tosh star explained. “He’s such an aware person.

“He came into the series understanding that he was the lead, and he led.

“He knew how to help everyone with their particular set of problems.”

She continued to Radio Times: “One of the things I love most about Dougie — and I love many things — is that he gets the best out of people.”

Alison went on to admit she has known about Douglas’ decision to leave since series five.

She explained it was a “weird” feeling when the public found out about Jimmy’s departure.

“I’ve had time to get used to it,” she added. “I think he decided when we were filming season five that he’d commit to two more seasons.”

When quizzed on whether Tosh will be promoted, the actress instantly shut down the idea.

She also teased fans with her own exit, admitting she is “undecided” on what she is doing.

During series seven, Tosh faced a near-death experience when she got trapped in a caravan.

The detective managed to escape by the skin of her teeth just before a huge explosion happened.

Tosh has been struggling to cope ever since, and it has also affected her personal life.

Despite her own struggles of being a new mum, Tosh and Jimmy are hellbent on finding out who is responsible for the explosion.

They also believe the bomb is connected to two suspicious deaths on Shetland.

At the end of the previous episode, viewers watched a hooded figure making another explosive.

But, will Jimmy and Tosh find out who the culprit is before another death happens?

Fans have been coming up with their own theories about how Jimmy will leave the island.

Some believe the detective will meet a sinister ending, while others remain hopeful he will leave with his new love interest.

The final episode of Shetland airs on Wednesday, but, will Jimmy finally meet his fate?

Shetland airs on Wednesday at 9pm on BBC One.
