Sinead O'Connor dead – Update on tragic star's cause of death as autopsy results due in weeks | The Sun

NO medical cause has yet been given for the tragic death of Sinead O'Connor, a London court has confirmed.

An autopsy will now be conducted after the star was found unresponsive at a London residence but the results may take "several weeks", London Inner South Coroner's Court has said.

The music legend died in London yesterday aged 56.

The court statement said: "The death of Sinead O'Connor in Lambeth was notified to the Coroner on Wednesday July 26 2023.

"No medical cause of death was given. The Coroner therefore directed an autopsy to be conducted. The results of this may not available for several weeks.

"The decision whether an inquest will be needed will be decided when these results are known and submissions have been heard from the family.

"Next of kin have been notified. The death is not being treated as suspicious. A file will be prepared for the Coroner."

Tributes poured in after the death of one of Ireland's most famous voices was confirmed last night.

The Nothing Compares 2 U icon's family said they were "devastated" at the death of their "beloved Sinead" – just 18 months after the death of her 17-year-old son Shane.

Her heartbroken family confirmed: "It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved Sinead.

"Her family and friends are devastated and have requested privacy at this very difficult time."

Sinead is survived by three children – Jake, Roisin and Yeshua.

In January 2022, she announced that her 17 year-old son Shane had died.

STAR'S TRAUMA

And in a heartbreaking final video message to fans earlier this month, she told how "losing a kid isn't good for the soul".

Sinead posted the clip to her Twitter account on July 19 after some of her followers questioned if the page belonged to the star.

She wrote: "Hey, some folks been asking I make video to prove identity..

"Now, I’ve been up all night listening to Hindu Aestheticism books on YouTube.

"And Madonna’s stylist told me to eat a giant d**k just now when I asked if she/he/they would rush over.. so deal with it ; )."

The star showed fans her apartment and said she planned to write more songs with her Johnny Cash guitar.

She also told how she was struggling with the loss of her son Shane, adding: "You don't believe it is my account, it is my account but fret not I'm going to be a good girl.

"I'm trying to film a f*****g video on the bloody phone…4k f*****g HD, f*****g what the hell is it talking about?

"I think we're in HD, I look like shit either way, which is why I didn't want to make a video but you know the way your kid unfortunately passing away isn't good for one's body. Poor soul to be fair.

"But anyway look, let's not dwell on bad. Anyway, hi guys. Let's see can I flip the camera around there, there's a bunch of flowers my friend gave me today in my nice flat.

"There's my new Johnny f*****g Cash guitar I am going to write some tunes on and yeah that's all I can show you because the place is a shit hole but there you go, it's this crazy witch."

LAST APPEARANCE

Sinead was presented with the inaugural award for Classic Irish Album at the RTE Choice Music Awards earlier this year.

In a rare public appearance in March, she dedicated her award for I Do Not Want What I Haven't Got to "each and every member of Ireland’s refugee community".

Broadcaster Dave Fanning presented Sinead with the prestigious award, describing her famous power ballad Nothing Compares as "the greatest love song in the history of music".

He said: "She made the greatest love song in the history of music by taking Prince's song and making it her own completely."

And in heartbreaking pics taken at the event, O'Connor can be seen beaming, laughing and waving to fans.

She said: "I'm really delighted with this, thanks.

"And I want to dedicate it to each and every member of Ireland's refugee community.

"Not just the Ukrainian ones, you're all very welcome in Ireland.

"And I love you very much and I wish you happiness. Thank you."

O’Connor won early acclaim in her musical career with her 1987 debut album, The Lion and the Cobra, which was nominated for a Grammy award.

But it was in 1990 that she stormed music charts worldwide, with the release of Nothing Compares 2 U.

The hit single made her a household name and sold millions of copies.

RESTLESS REBEL

In all, the often outspoken mum-of-four released ten studio albums.

And just two weeks ago, she spoke about putting the finishing touches to another.

She wrote on Facebook: "Hi All, recently moved back to London after 23 years absence. Very happy to be home. Soon finishing my album. Release early next year."

Born in Glenageary, Co Dublin, in 1966, O’Connor told of how she was raised by an abusive mother, a backstory she explored in her song Fire on Babylon.

Caught shoplifting at 15 and often skipping school, she spent 18 months in a Magdalene Asylum.

It was while she was living in London, aged 20, that she recorded The Lion and the Cobra.

Her second album, I Do Not Want What I Haven’t Got, coincided with the first airing in public of what was to become her trademark shaved head.
