‘SNL’: Host Quinta Brunson Jokingly Blasts ‘Friends’ for Having No Black Characters During Monologue

Elsewhere in the episode, cast member Michael Che successfully makes co-star Colin Jost ‘covered in sweat’ during ‘Weekend Update’ segment with his April Fool’s Day joke.

AceShowbizQuinta Brunson made her “Saturday Night Live” debut in the Saturday, April 1 episode of the popular show. During her monologue, the “Abbott Elementary” star/creator talked about how much she dreamed to be on the hit comedy show before mentioning “Friends“.

She revealed that she went to audition for “SNL” when she was a kid, but the process “seemed long.” That was why she “created my own TV show, made sure it became really popular, won a bunch of Emmys and then got asked to host and it was so much easier!”

The 33-year-old went on to joke, “Except instead of being about a group of friends, it’s about a group of teachers. And instead of New York, it’s in Philadelphia. And instead of not having black people — it does.” It was clear that she called out out “Friends” which has been criticized for its lack of diversity.

Concluding her monologue, the Emmy winner pointed out how teachers are often “taken for granted.” She urged, “Please remember how important teachers are, acknowledge the work they do every day and for the love of God, pay them the money they deserve.”

Elsewhere in the episode, cast member Michael Che pranked co-star Colin Jost during “Weekend Update” segment as the episode happened to fall on April Fool’s Day. During the segment, things went awry when Colin’s jokes about Donald Trump‘s indictment were not well received by the audience. However, the audience erupted in laughter when Michael made jokes at the subject.

“At this point, it feels like even pro-Trump people have moved on,” Colin said. “I mean I went down to the courthouse today, and I was the only protestor there,” alongside a Photoshopped picture of himself holding a “LET OUR BOY GO!” sign. Still, the crowd was unimpressed with one person from the audience yelling, “You stink!”

Colin quickly noticed that he was being pranked. Michael then admitted, “I told them not to laugh at you for April Fool’s.” Colin later told the audience, “I was truly like, ‘Am I not mic’d?’ And then I was just like, ‘Oh, I just suck.’ “

“God! You’re evil!” Colin later shouted at his partner. “That’s the meanest thing you’ve ever done to me. I’m covered in sweat!”
