Spoilers: Marcus exits the Emmerdale village after 'boring' showdown

Ethan (Emile John)’s proposal to Marcus (Darcy Grey) in yesterday’s Emmerdale didn’t go well, to say the least, as no sooner was the proposal out of his mouth than his jaw was on the floor upon seeing a strange man descending his staircase.

With either terrible or genius timing, Ethan had proposed just after Marcus had been upstairs having sex with an ex.

So in tonight’s episode things were not looking good for the couple. Marcus came to the house to apologise. ‘The irony of it is, I’m not even a guy who cheats,’ the cheating electrician explained.

Obviously this didn’t impress Ethan much, but Marcus wasn’t after a reconciliation anyway. He said that the relationship hadn’t felt right for some time – if it had, he wouldn’t have been attracted to someone else, he reasoned. ‘You must feel the same, deep down,’ he suggested.

Ethan said if that had been the case, why would he have proposed? Marcus said that he proposed because he liked the idea of it more than the reality. He wanted someone to play house with and plan Saturday nights in with.

‘Our lives have gotten boring,’ Marcus said. ‘In fact you’re a bit boring.’

Ouch.

Later on Marcus was back at Tall Trees Cottage, but this time Ethan didn’t even let him in the house and threw his stuff out of the window instead. And he was clearly raging about the ‘boring’ comment.

‘If we’re going to be cliched I should be cutting these up first,’ he said, flinging a couple of shirts at his former boyfriend. ‘How’s that for boring?’

Marcus was beginning to get the message that he wasn’t going to be forgiven. ‘Take your stuff and get the hell out of here,’ Ethan told him.

‘With pleasure,’ Marcus replied. And just like that, Marcus’s time in the village came to an end as it was reported earlier this month that Darcy Grey had left the role after just a year.

So Marcus left the village, but his comments were still troubling Ethan.

‘Do you think I’m boring?’ he asked Nate (Jurell Carter), who didn’t exactly say no. ‘It’s never jumped out to me, mate,’ was his somewhat tepid response. ‘But what do I know? According to Naomi I’m no day at the funfair either.’

Nate has been recently dumped by Naomi (Karene Peter) too, so because misery loves company he told Ethan he was taking him for a pint.

They were having a drink at the Woolpack when Naomi and Victoria (Isabel Hodgins) came in. Nate greeted Naomi and made a remark about how he was ‘Maybe not so boring,’ because he was having a drink with Ethan.

‘Maybe it was you that was making me boring,’ he told his ex, somewhat implausibly given that she’s spent the past week trying to mobilise him into having some kind of social life.

Ethan decided to highlight how un-boring he and Nate were by ordering Jägerbombs, but his move didn’t impress Charity (Emma Atkins).

‘Wow,’ she said. ’24 Hour Party People alert.’

That ‘boring’ tag is going to be a bit difficult to shift, it seems.
