Strictly Come Dancing bosses have Phillip Schofield in their sights after ITV exit

Following Phillip Schofield's departure from ITV's This Morning last week, Strictly Come Dancing bosses are said to have him in their sights for the new series.

Phillip, 61, presented his last episode of the daytime show on Thursday after reports of a huge feud with his friend and co-host Holly Willoughby.

Following on from his shock announcement over the weekend, bosses at the BBC are said to be keen to convince the Dancing On Ice host to get his ballroom shoes on.

An insider told The Sun: "Phil is in the sights of Strictly. They would love to have him on board because of the publicity it would generate for the show."

"Since he was axed from This Morning, people have been discussing what they could do with him."

Phillip decided to leave the ITV show after 21 years after "This Morning itself became the story," and ITV decided the situation could not continue.

Holly, 42, will continue to present the daytime hit but for now, she has decided to take a short break. The mum-of-three will return to the show in June.

For no, it is down to different members of the This Morning family to present the programme with the job falling to Dermot O'Leary and Alison Hammond on Monday and Tuesday of this week.

When the duo opened the show on Monday, they began by paying tribute to the former host Phillip as Alison said: "We all know he’s one of the best live television broadcasters this country has ever had."

Dermot added: "Everyone on and off screen at ITV and This Morning want to say a huge thank you to Phil for what he’s done to make the show such a success over the last 21 years.”

Away from the tributes on screen, This Morning chef Clodagh McKenna paid tribute to her former colleague saying: "21 years of brightening up our mornings…. And I’ve been so lucky to be part of 3 of them.

"I’ll miss the morning hug, the twinkle in your eye that makes me giggle and your empathy.”

Rochelle Humes also heaped praise on Phillip, who she has worked with on the show for nearly 10 years.

Taking to Instagram, Rochelle said: "I’ve proudly been a part of the This Morning family for almost 10 years and over the last few, it has been an absolute pleasure learning so much from you.

‘Thanks for all the lessons – you’re a fountain of love, knowledge and laughter."
