On Sunday night’s Strictly Come Dancing, James Bye and Fleur East landed in the bottom two and had to perform their routines again. However, it has since been revealed The X Factor star and her dance partner Vito had to restart their performance in the dance-off following an “incident with a prop”.

The move has since sparked outrage among fans, with one insider telling The Sun: “It’s not exactly a live performance if stars get to have another crack of the whip.”

A spokesperson has since responded to the reports, explaining bosses were forced to halt proceedings.

“After an incident with a prop at the beginning of Fleur and Vito’s dance-off performance, the decision was made to halt proceedings to check they were not injured, as a matter of urgency,” a spokesperson told Express.co.uk

“As they had not begun to dance before the incident occurred, it was decided they could start the performance again, once it was confirmed they were fit to do so.”

The spokesperson went on to point out this is not the first time it has happened on the show.

There was also an incident with Lee Ryan and a prop in 2018, where he had to restart his routine.

The dance-off has sparked division among fans online, and while some believed Fleur didn’t deserve to be in the bottom two, others were left baffled by the decision to let the singer dance again.

Karl wrote: “So we find out Fleur East fell in her first dance-off (unseen), stumbled in her second dance-off (seen) and yet all 4 judges still voted her as the best based on the dance-off alone!? Doesn’t make sense #Strictly #BBCStrictly.”

User @Thatsgrandnow said: “How can Fleur have been given another chance to dance? It’s a live show on Sundays and I didn’t notice the chair fall etc. #SCD #fleureast #Strictly.”

While J Field added: “Apparently Fleur fell over in the dance-off and started again. That’s her in the dance-off every week till she’s out then. #Strictly.”

Fleur looked disappointed on Sunday night when she landed in the bottom two.

Speaking to Tess Daly about the result, Fleur said: “We’ve worked really hard this week but this is how it goes right?

“We have just got to do our best, yeah…”

Turning to Motsi Mabuse to share some words of advice, the judge replied: “Well, my word of advice, honestly is that just to repeat what you did.

“Dance, keep your spirits up, keep your energy up. You know what you can do, so just show it again.”

In the dance-off, James and his dance partner Amy Dowden performed their Charleston to Bumble Bee by LaVern Baker.

Meanwhile, Fleur and Vito performed their Salsa to Break My Soul by Beyoncé.

Once both pairs had danced again, all four judges decided to save Fleur and Vito.

This meant James and his dance partner Amy Dowden were sent home.

The EastEnders star broke down in tears as he spoke with Tess about the elimination.

Strictly Come Dancing returns on Saturday at 7pm on BBC One.
