Strictly ‘friction’ as star claims Amanda Abbington ‘doesn’t trust Giovanni’

A former Strictly Come Dancing star has claimed there is “friction” between Giovanni Pernice and Amanda Abbington.

The Italian dancer and his celebrity partner Amanda have been setting the Strictly dance floor on fire on this year's series. And despite charting high on the leaderboard, one ex-Strictly star has spotted cracks in their relationship.

According to dancer Brendan Cole, who appeared on the show for 15 years, he has an issue with the dancing duo. So much so that he has claimed Giovanni isn’t trusted by Amanda.

“With Amanda [Abbington] and Giovanni [Pernicei], they were really bringing it home about trust,” he told Sky Bingo. Brendan went on: “There was a great telling moment – Giovanni said, 'Do you trust me?'

“And she said something along the lines of 'Of course I trust you.’ But at the same time, she was looking away – for me, body language is everything."

He added: “You can tell if somebody is lying – as she's saying it, she's literally looking away, so I think that she doesn't trust him. It could be a fact that she doesn't trust his motives within the show, she doesn't trust his way of doing things – the friction in the relationship is real."

Rumours that the pair don't get on have been swirling in recent weeks. But the pair insisted they were having fun together during a stint on It Takes Two.

It comes after Brendan confessed he had a major fallout with two of his celeb partners and couldn't even be in a room with one of them.

The 47-year-old spoke openly about his experiences on the BBC show while discussing the alleged issues between Amanda Abbington and Giovanni Pernice who are partnered together on this year's series. He went on to state that getting a partner you don't get along with is the "hardest" part.

He said: "I've had that twice really strongly, where we couldn't even be in the same studio together – it was awful. The hardest part about Strictly is if you don't gel with your partner, you are in such trouble."

The dance pro then went on to share how intense things can be. He added: "You spend such a lot of time together, it's so intense, the training is intense, the time you spend together in the studio, sometimes for hours, sometimes eight hours, sometimes longer."

The star went on to explain that if both the professional and the celeb get along then their routines will heighten as it "bolsters the relationship". But if there is tension then it can be such "an uncomfortable feeling".
