Strictly star says BBC show is ‘like a cult’ and compares it to being high

Strictly Come Dancing star Anneka Rice has compared her show experience to "being on drugs".

The TV presenter starred on the show in 2019 and said it was the "weirdest experience" of her life.

Anneka attended the National Television Awards on Thursday (October 13) at spoke exclusively to the Daily Star on the red carpet.

Talking about her Strictly experience, she said: "Oh my god, Strictly, I'm just so relieved I'm not doing it now.

"I just look at it and think 'how did I do that?' It is like being in a cult. It's thrilling at the time and when you're spat out you think 'what was that?' Honestly, it's like being on drugs."

"Good luck to them they will be having a wonderful time it is the most extraordinary thing I've ever done."

But did she ever have any show blunders?

Anneka, 64, said: "The moments such as being thrown in the air by Kevin Cliffton and realising I needed a bit more practice before I actually did those moves.

"I did hurt my neck quite badly so we had to adjust the dances. Everyone got more and more injuries as the weeks went by the trail to the hospital and back as the weeks went on was hilarious."

The TV star also revealed that she is still in touch with her pro dance partner who is expecting a baby with Stacey Dooley.

She remarked: "Kevin – we are in touch but he is very busy and expecting a baby which is so exciting.

"I would do it again in a shot it was great but the weirdest thing I've ever done in my life."

In further Strictly news, Simon Webbe revealed why he would never submit to the Strictly curse.

Explaining his decision in an exclusive Facebook Live, Simon said: "That's very important for me because I didn't want my experience of the show to be overshadowed by the Strictly curse so to speak…

"I didn't want to have any tension like when you're walking into the room the next day when you've gotta do your job.

"I'm gonna just say giving your body away to somebody isn't something which is just willy nilly to me, not to me anyway, so I'd rather use that energy and put it into the dancing."
