Strictly’s James Bye floored as big Hollywood director tweets about his Movie Week routine

James Bye appears to have a new Hollywood fan – hit movie maker and director James Gunn.

For Strictly Come Dancing’s Movie Week, James and dancer partner Amy Dowden paid homage to Marvel film Guardians of the Galaxy.

Dressed as frontman Peter Quill, James had an uncanny resemblance to the character’s actor Chris Pratt.

Meanwhile, Amy hit the dance floor in green body paint and a black catsuit as she based her look on Zoe Saldana’s Gamora.

The pair performed the Cha Cha Cha to Blue Swede’s Hooked On A Feeling and ended up with 22 points from the judges.

The EastEnders star went on to praise his professional partner Amy Dowden for “putting up” with him every week.

He said: “The Cha Cha Cha, it’s not my friend. I had to have chat to myself.

“That’s as good as I’m going to do it, I’m happy with that.

“It’s just about improving each week, I’m bringing nothing to the table in terms of dancing.”

Soon after their performance, James Gunn – who directed the first two Guardians of the Galaxy movies, as well as the upcoming third one – took to Twitter to share his thoughts.

Sharing a clip of their dance, he wrote: “Can’t decide whether I should keep this scene in Vol 3. Let me know what you think below.”

On Sunday night’s result show, host Claudia Winkleman informed James of the tweet, noting that the soap star’s three sons were likely to be thrilled.

Putting his hands in the air in excitement, James replied: “Jimmy Gunn, keep it in lad.”

As Camilla said that his “work was done”, James quipped: “Thanks very much Strictly, I’m out of here,” as he pretended to exit the studio.

As his fellow dancers and the rest of the studio applauded, the dad-of-three went on to brand it as “amazing”.

Strictly viewers were equally as taken aback by their dance gaining James Gunn’s attention, as one person also tweeted: “James Gunn tweeting about James Bye – aka Martin Fowler from #EastEnders – playing Star Lord on #Strictly is absolutely the cross-over I needed.”

“As if James Gunn watched Strictly!” said someone else, as a third went on: “James Gunn tweeting about Strictly, you love to see it.”

Another wrote: “Never imagined I'd see James Gunn tweeting a clip from BBC Strictly, and yet, here we are. Incredible seeing worlds collide honestly!”
