Strictly’s Len Goodman calls curry powder ‘foreign muck’ in car crash interview

Len Goodman sparked fury on social media after the former Strictly Come Dancing judge called curry powder “foreign muck”.

For the fourth and final day of celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee, the ballroom star, 78, joined Kirsty Young on BBC One to discuss the special royal dishes made in her honour.

The telly star was joined by TV chef John Torode as he served up a festive Platinum Pudding trifle on air.

While the trio were talking about the recipes created for the Queen’s milestones, the former judge confessed that he had only tried coronation chicken for the first time on Saturday (June 4).

As they enjoyed a sample of the professional cook’s dish, Len shared his thoughts on the spiced savoury treat on air.

He told the broadcaster: “My wife did coronation chicken yesterday, for tea and I've never had it before.

“No, I've never had, you know, curry and curry powder. No. My Nan used to call it all foreign muck so I was worried about it.

“But I must say it was delicious, it was so tasty. So yeah, I had my first sampling of coronation chicken yesterday.”

Len’s controversial comments soon sparked fury online as viewers swarmed to social media with many quick to condemn the star.

One user penned: “Petition to get the BBC and Len Goodman to apologise for his choice of words calling Coronation Chicken ‘foreign much’ in the words of his nan, apparently.

“Appalling an No excuses because of his age. We forgive older generations for things like this too much. #PlatinumJubilee.”

Another added: “Not Len Goodman lovingly quoting how his nan referred to curry as ‘foreign muck’ and that’s why he’s nervous of it now. This on the BBC Jubilee coverage.”

A third chimed in with: “Can’t believe Len Goodman referred to curry as ‘foreign muck’ on live TV and no one even apologised for it?!”

“A bit in shock about #lengoofman calling curry powder foreign muck. Genuinely can’t believe I just heard that on BBC1.”

Coronation chicken was first created for the banquet of the coronation of Queen Elizabeth II back in 1953, and the dish has remained a popular addition to buffet tables and sandwiches ever since.

The scrumptious filling is usually made with mayonnaise, curry powder, sultanas, shredded chicken, cinnamon and sometimes mango chutney.
