Successions Greg star says having casual sex is now hard as hes so famous

As one half of womanising duo The Disgusting Brothers, Succession’s Cousin Greg seems to have a pretty sketchy attitude towards the opposite sex.

But the actor who plays Greg, 6’7” New Yorker Nicholas Braun, is a lot more careful. Partly, he admits, because he has to be.

He says that while everyone has their own anxieties about dating, being a celebrity adds a whole extra layer of complication.

Referring to the “Me Too” movement and the much greater scrutiny of the way men – especially famous men – treat women, Nicholas said: "There are people out there f*****g, but men can’t talk about it”.

Speaking to Dax Shepard on his podcast, he added that today’s hookup culture meant that dating is “way better for men in general but for me as a person with a certain level of fame to just keep my mouth shut and never talk about it”.

He continued: “I’ve seen it so many times where you say one thing and it’s snatched up by Twitter culture… and TikTok videos…”

Nicholas trusts "almost no stranger woman" because it's impossible for him as a celebrity to work out their motive.

Back in 2019, Succession was still a comparatively new show. And – then aged 31 – Nicholas was thinking: “This is fun. We can hook up or we can date it can be …the common route of dating or just hooking up.

“And yeah [US gossip blog DeuxMoi] would see me and things like that but I didn't really care that much. It's not shameful to be with a girl as a single man.”

Nicholas adds that these days it’s impossible to separate his own attractiveness from his star power. “It’s natural to be attracted to someone that’s successful at what they do,” he points out.

But he knows that if he hooks up with someone, they won’t be able to resist telling their friends they’ve slept with Greg from Succession.

He continued: “When some person from the world – not a celebrity – has an experience and has had an experience with me they talk about it, of course and then it's their story and it's not something they're going to keep secret.

“Because ‘oh yeah, it's just like dating another guy from a dating app or something, I don't need to tell that story to anybody or lots of people', but when they have hooked up with a celebrity, it's a great story for them to share with alll.”

“That's part of the reason why I've had to be increasingly kind of paranoid because if you have a hook up and maybe it's weird, maybe it's awkward … which is the nature of dating.

“The chemistry is not always there …and they kiss horribly…and they don't know how to touch each other and one's really sweaty and one's not, they don't care and at some point, one of them doesn't want to be there anymore, and that goes both ways

“Remove the fame aspect from it. I'm a man attracted to or hoping to date a girl and we're allowed to fail at it. But when adding the fame back in and we fail at it, now they have a story and they can say any story… and they can say any story really because I’m not there to say ‘actually she was a bad kisser’.”
