Succession returns in trailer for final season of HBO drama
Following news that the fourth season of Succession is its last, it looks like star Matthew Macfadyen has already got another acting project in the pipeline. Macfadyen is going from one dysfunctional cast to another, with the series star set to join Ryan Reynolds in the third Deadpool movie.
Macfadyen has been celebrated for his work as the scheming and obsequious Tom in Succession, which had the premiere of its fourth and final season on Sunday.
It appears Macfadyen has wowed the casting directors of Deadpool as they have cast him to feature in the third movie of the franchise, Deadline reports.
Macfadyen will also star alongside Reynolds as Deadpool and Hugh Jackman as Wolverine.
Macfadyen’s role has been kept under wraps for now, but the feature was searching for a character described as being a third wheel to Deadpool and Wolverine.
The third Deadpool comes after Reynolds spent years lobbying Jackman to bring his Wolverine out of retirement for a Deadpool film.
Last year, Jackman finally gave in to Reynolds, with the pair sharing the news with fans in September.
Alongside Reynolds and Jackman, the Succession star will also be joined by The Crown‘s Emma Corrin, who will play a villain role.
Wendy Molyneux and Lizzie Molyneux-Logelin previously wrote a draft of the script, with Deadpool and Deadpool 2 scribes Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick coming in later to write on the project.

Speaking about the franchise last year film director Shawn Levy explained: “It is such a blast to laugh every day.
“It is so delicious to hear and write and come up with these scenes where people are just talking foul. And the violence is in your face and hardcore, and it’s very much a ‘Deadpool’ movie.”
When it comes to Macfadyen himself, he is best known for his role of playing Shiv Roy’s (Sarah Snook) husband, Tom, on the Emmy-winning series Succession.
The most recent season won him the Emmy and BAFTA for Best Supporting Actor in a Drama.
During the series, fans quickly came to realise Roy was intimidated and terrified of Logan Roy (Brain Cox), often humiliating himself in order to gain attention with the titan of industry.
Things did get better for Macfadyen’s character though, as he later bravely offers himself as a blood sacrifice for Logan, earning the titan’s respect and admiration.
When it comes to his on-screen wife, Shiv, Tom is deeply in love and devoted to her, but is aware of the unequal power and love dynamics between them both.
So when Shiv asked for an open marriage on the night of their wedding, Tom was upset by the news, but because he loved her, he bends to stay with her.
The pair have faced a fair few challenges in the marriage throughout the previous three seasons of Succession.

Although, the actor has always found time for other TV projects to fit around his busy Succession schedule.
One of Macfadyen’s recent TV stints was that of ITV’s comedy-drama biopic Stonehouse.
He stars as the lead character John Stonehouse, a disgraced Labour minister as fans follow the ups and downs of his career.
But right now, he’s using his acting skills in Amazon Prime’s upcoming thriller, Holland, Michigan.
Macfadyen will star alongside Nicole Kidman, who is also set to feature in Holland, Michigan.
Succession is currently available to stream on HBO in the US or alternatively streaming on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
