Supergirl Movie Reportedly Scrapped Too After Batgirl Cancellation

The project, which will be ‘The Flash’ spin-off film starring Sasha Calle, is reportedly in limbo as Warner Bros. also finds itself in difficult position with the Ezra Miller-starring movie following their erratic behavior.

AceShowbiz -Another DC superhero movie appears to be on the chopping block amid Warner Bros.’ cost-savings push. After “Batgirl” fans were left disappointed by the movie cancellation, a “Supergirl” movie is said to be likely not moving forward as well.

In an article by Rolling Stone explaining Warner Bros.’ decision to scrap “Batgirl”, the site reported, “Now, the prospect of other DC films being squashed looms.” According to the news outlet, “Insiders say ‘Supergirl’, which is in development, is not likely to move forward.”

It’s unclear if the studio wants to back out of its commitment with the “Supergirl” movie as part of its change, but the report mentioned that “Warner Bros. also finds itself in another difficult position with the upcoming movie ‘The Flash‘ ” amid star Ezra Miller‘s erratic behavior.

“The Flash” is supposed to kickstart an all-new DC Universe, introducing Sasha Calle as Supergirl, the cousin of Superman. From there, the female superhero is expected to spin off of the Miller-led tentpole.

According to the site, while “The Flash” standalone movie remains on track for a 2023 release, the studio decided to hit the pause button on any future projects involving Miller, including possible appearances in the DC Extended Universe, as happened in the “Peacemaker” finale in February, when Miller made a surprise cameo.

Meanwhile, “Batgirl” directors and star have broken their silence on the movie cancellation. Billal Fallah and Adil Al Arbi said they “are saddened and shocked by the news” as they “wish that fans all over the world would have had the opportunity to see an embrace the final films themselves.”

On the other hand, Leslie Grace is “proud of the love, hard work and intention all of our incredible cast and tireless crew put into this film over 7 months in Scotland.” She added, “I feel blessed to have worked among absolute greats and forged relationships for a lifetime in the process!” while sharing behind-the-scenes photos and videos from “Batgirl”.

While the cast members were “blindsided” by the cancellation, Rolling Stone reported that the abrupt move came because the film’s quality didn’t live up to expectations. One source familiar with audience testing for the film likened it to “a bad episode of TV,” while another said “it’s definitely not theatrical.”
