The Last Leg Adam Hills takes swipe at queue-jumpers amid Holly and Phil fury

The Last Leg’s Adam Hills took a veiled dig at the famous faces who reportedly jumped the queue to pay their respects to Queen Elizabeth II while lying-in-state at Westminster Palace.

The comedian, 52, was back at the helm of the Channel 4 comedy show on Friday (September 16) after he made the decision not to air their planned programme last week just 24 hours after Her Majesty’s death.

Following her passing, the Australian host released a statement on Twitter explaining his reason behind his decision to pull the show from the air.

In full view of his 614.2k followers, he penned: “We’ve decided not to do an episode of @thelastleg tonight. It just doesn’t feel right.”

The beloved comedy show returned to our screens this week, where the dad-of-two was joined by his co-stars Josh Widdicombe and Alex Brooker, alongside guests Judi Love and David Harewood.

On the show, the group discussed the five-mile-long queues of people snaking their way around the capital waiting to pay their final respects to the Queen.

Over the weekend, mourners were quick to praise David Beckham for queuing up to pay his respects to Her Royal Highness for more than 12 hours.

And the panellists were quick to agree with the professional footballer’s dedication to the Queen as the Homeland star gushed: “Fair play to him. He didn’t skip the queue, he waited patiently.”

British comic Alex confessed he was envious of those mourners who got to “look at David Beckham’s face for 12 hours. What a touch.”

Adam went on to point out how Good Morning Britain presenter Susanna Reid and comedian Tim Vine also joined the 13-hour-long queue to pay their respects.

It was at this point that the Channel 4 host pointed out many other celebs opted to use the VIP entrance, including former Prime Minister Theresa May and This Morning presenters.

He said: “Theresa May used the VIP entrance as did Phillip Schofield and Holly Willoughby, people are really angry about that one.

“There’s apparently a sub-set of people out there who adore the Royal Family but don’t like it when rich, privileged people get special treatment.”

As laughter and applause rang out in the studio, Adam did clarify that ITV had told the programme Holly and Phillip were at Westminster Hall filming and were therefore allowed to use the press entrance.

He added: “There’s no truth to the rumours they spun a wheel for viewers to join them,” after This Morning divided viewers earlier this month by adding energy bills to its Spin to Win competition.
