The Suspect is ITV’s adaptation of author Michael Robotham’s best-selling 2019 novel of the same name. Brought to life by the producers of Line of Duty and Vigil, this psychological drama won’t be one to miss. Here’s everything there is to know so far about The Suspect.

When is the release date for The Suspect?

The Suspect was originally commissioned by ITV in October 2021 so the series has been a long time coming.

Thankfully, the countdown can begin as the end of the waiting game is almost in sight.

The Suspect will premiere on Monday, August 29, at 9pm on ITV with each instalment an hour long.

Once an episode comes out on ITV, it will come out on the streaming service ITV Hub where the five-part boxset is going to be dropped.

Who is in the cast of The Suspect?

Leading the cast as Dr Joe O’Loughlin is actor Aidan Turner who is best known for playing Ross Poldark in the BBC period drama Poldark.

Over the years, Turner has also been Dante Gabriel Rossetti in Desperate Romantics, Ruairi McGowan in The Clinic and

John Mitchell in the supernatural drama Being Human.

Author Michael Robotham described Turner as “an inspired choice” to portray his leading man Joe O’Loughlin.

The crime writer commented: “I could not be in safer hands.”

In a statement talking about the series, Turner said: “I am thrilled to be taking on the complex and demanding role of Joseph O’Loughlin, a man with so much to give but so much to lose, and a hidden darker side.”

There are a number of other familiar faces joining Turner in The Suspect as well.

Joining Turner in the ITV series is Small Axe star Shaun Parkes as DI Ruiz who is the lead investigating officer.

He will be joined by Vigil’s Anjli Mohindra as DS Devi, Fleabag’s Sian Clifford and Save Me Too’s Camilla Beeput.

Other cast members include Adam James, Bronagh Waugh, Bobby Schofield and Angela Griffin.

Is there a trailer for The Suspect?

Yes, ITV released a first-look trailer for The Suspect earlier this month.

The one-minute clip teases what fans can expect from the limited series drama that will begin in a matter of days.

The Suspect’s trailer starts with a disturbing focal point of Joe O’Loughlin (Aidan Turner) as he intensely stares into a mirror that turns.

Narrating the moment, Joe says: “All fear can be overcome, rational and irrational. Sometimes we need help doing that. That’s why I’m here.”

What is The Suspect about?

At the beginning of The Suspect, Joe appears to have the perfect life with a great job as a clinical psychologist and a family he adores.

He is soon thought of as a hero as he helps a young patient who is ready to jump from the 10th floor of the hospital where he works.

So when the body of a young woman is discovered, the police are keen to learn his opinion of the case but he soon finds himself as one of the key suspects in the investigation.

The Suspect premieres on Monday, August 29, at 9pm on ITV.
