BBC’s popular game show The Wheel made its comeback on Saturday with presenter and comedian Michael McIntyre. With the help of celebrity guests, Martin was reduced to tears after winning £44,000.

In the most recent episode, Michael was joined by celebrity experts Alison Hammond, James Martin, Dianne Buswell, Sir Steve Redgrave, Rachel Parris, Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen and Bash the Entertainer.

The stars were strapped into the wheel above contestants Esther, Martin and Nancy who were spinning on a separate wheel underneath the celebrities.

Martin became the first person to join the stars for a chance of winning the big to celebrate his and his husband’s 10th anniversary with a holiday.

To win, Martin was tasked with clearing the wheel of the celebrities’ expert categories and cash out from the bank.

The expert categories included TikTok, literature, food, interior design, hair, rowing and the city of Birmingham.

It all came down to the final question with Strictly Come Dancing’s Dianne helping him to answer.

He was asked: “Which of these clubs did David Beckham not play for during his professional career?”

Martin was shocked to discover he accurately answered: “Bayern Munich.”

The 50-year-old couldn’t contain his excitement as he screamed and turned to Michael in complete disbelief.

As the celebrities and the studio audience cheered and applauded, Martin burst into tears and sobbed with his head in his hands.

Viewers also celebrated Martin’s win as they rushed to social media to react to the contestant’s excitement.

@TheCheeef tweeted: “#TheWheel that’s the best reaction I’ve ever seen to a game show win. Pure shock, pure joy.”

@magso5 shared: “Awww…delighted for Martin.”

@LemonadeLoz stated: “I’m so f****g happy for him.”

An excited @2001joe_mendy tweeted: “MARTIN, YOU LEGEND!!! Congratulations to Martin on his big win. He’s leaving with £44k!!!”

Speaking to Michael, Martin said: “Oh my God, that’s is crazy. That is just mental, oh my God that’s just amazing.”

As the host probed how he would spend the money, Martin shared: “My sister is out in Portugal, with my nephew, my niece, my brother-in-law, I haven’t seen them or my dad in over two and half years.

“We’re going to get together, we’re going to have a holiday.”

As he struggled to hold back tears, Martin continued: “We’re going to organise it, I haven’t seen them for ages.”

The Wheel continues on Saturday at 5:50pm on BBC One.
