During Thursday’s instalment of the ITV show, the This Morning presenters quizzed Rishi Sunak on his policies and what he can offer the nation if he were to become Prime Minister. Although viewers were not impressed when Humes and Peters decided to ask him about his McDonald’s order.

Towards the end of the interview, the two hosts said they had a “burning” question to ask Sunak after recent photos of him emerged at the fast food chain.

Showing the snaps of the Tory MP at a McDonald’s self-checkout screen, he joked he had managed to work it out before receiving a sarcastic round of applause.

Peters said: “I’m a Big Mac meal, medium chips, medium coke and six nuggets with sweet and sour sauce.”

He then asked Humes what her order was as she revealed she gets a fillet-o-fish with no cheese and an apple pie.

Unimpressed with her order, Sunak pulled a face before telling the This Morning hosts what he decided to get yesterday in those photos.

He said: “I was there at about 7:45am so it was not a burger and nuggets!

“I got breakfast, so I get a bacon roll with ketchup and the pancakes.”

The Prime Minister candidate then added if he was with his daughters, he would have ordered something different.

He commented: “My eldest daughter, we get the wrap with the hash brown and everything in it.”

Approving the choice, Humes said she was “a girl after my own heart”.

Although the conversation was a light-hearted way to end the segment, viewers were left less than impressed.

On Twitter, Dee commented: “What’s your plan & can you explain it how we can understand…..Painful questioning. #ThisMorning.”

Linda added: “Sorry but these two should not be doing this interview. It’s painful #thismorning.”

“These two are not capable of challenging Sunak. #ThisMorning,” user @Mrs04Life tweeted.

Leanne Thomas posted: “What a p**s easy interview. No wonder Rishi agreed to do it #ThisMorning.”

“This pair would be out of their depth interviewing the Teletubbies #ThisMorning,” Mick joked.

Jasmine fumed: “People will die cos they can’t afford to heat their house but it’s alright cos we know rishi orders a bacon roll from maccies xxx #ThisMorning.”

Elsewhere in the interview, Peters mentioned people have been seeing more of his family this time around.

Replying, Sunak said: “It’s been really nice, I’ve been very protective of them as you can imagine.

“I’ve got two young girls and it was the day I launched the campaign, it was lovely for them to be there with me and they mean the world to me.”

This Morning airs weekdays on ITV from 10am.
