Tipping Point viewers were stunned when one contestant thought the moon was a place on Earth.

Hopeful contestant Teni joined the lineup of the show on Thursday (March 9) as she vied for her place in the final round of the hit ITV quiz show and a chance at winning the £10,000 jackpot.

However, Teni found herself struggling as she reached round two when some of the questions challenged her general knowledge.

One in particular saw her fall to pieces as she was asked about historical explorer Robert Peary.

Host Ben Shephard posed the question: "In 1909, US explorer Robert Peary claimed to be the first person to reach which of Earth's extremities?"

Baffled by the question and admitting she "didn't even know what extremities means," Teni struggled to give a sensible answer to the question and instead opted for "the moon."

Viewers of the show then took to Twitter in awe at her blunder as they teased her for not thinking it through.

One wrote: "Teni, actually LISTEN to the question. The moon. Dear. GOD!!!"

Another added: "Earth's extremities = the MOON? To coin a phrase -EARTH CALLING TENI, EARTH CALLING TENI."

A third said: "Teni:who was the first man to reach the North Pole ? Teni: Neil Armstrong?"

A fourth offered: "Nothing further will match 'the moon' today so I'm off. hahaha."

A fifth social media user tweeted: "Just Teni and Wallace and Gromit off to visit the moon. No biggie."

Sadly for Teni she crashed out in round two leaving rival contestant Louise to take her place in the final and aim for the big cash prize.

While she didn't perform too well at first Louise was brave enough to take the gamble at the end of the round and was ecstatic when the star jackpot counter dropped for her meaning she wasn't just the winner on the day, but went home with the £10,000 prize.

Tipping Point airs weekdays at 4pm on ITV and ITVX.
