Top Boy’s Stef star disagreed with Sully stand-off scene

Top Boy: Season 3 official trailer on Netflix

WARNING: This article contains spoilers from Top Boy

Top Boy is done and dusted with and while season three has gone down a storm, Stef actor Araloyin Oshunremi wasn’t entirely convinced by his character’s final moment.

The Netflix gangster drama is beloved by critics and Netflix viewers alike, so there was plenty of excitement surrounding the ending.

In season two, Jamie Tovell (played by Micheal Ward) was killed on his doorstep in front of his brothers Aaron (Hope Ikpoku Jnr) and Stef (Araloyin Oshunremi) by Sully (Kane “Kano” Robinson).

While Aaron moved away to Leeds for a marketing job, Stef remained on the Summerhouse estate with Sully still causing trouble for those around him.

Stef got his hands on a gun and season three saw his pent-up anger escalate to the point of planning to assassinate his brother’s killer.

However, when it came to actually pulling the trigger in the park, Stef wasn’t able to do it.

He stood still for a few moments with the gun pointed at Sully but decided against shooting, telling his enemy he wasn’t “worth it” and walked away.

Sully didn’t get away with his crimes though as a few minutes later, an unknown rival fatally shot him in the car, with blood splattered on the window.

Stef actor Araloyin Oshunremi said he wasn’t told how the show was going to end exactly but didn’t agree with the writers’ decision to end his own character’s story.

Speaking to Digital Spy, Oshunremi said: “Oh. They just told me my scene, they didn’t tell me about anything else. They literally just told me: ‘You’re going to have to do this scene with Sully.’

“When I was listening to them, I was thinking: ‘I get what you guys are trying to do.’

“But at the same time no kid – who has had both their parents die, their best friend die, their older brother die, the person who was taking care of them while their brother was in jail die – is not going to shoot their brother’s killer right in front of them.

“So I was like: ‘OK, cool. I get that, you want to get him away from that cycle but if we’re being realistic, anyone in that position is killing him.’

“But at the same time, it’s a TV show.”

It isn’t known who murdered Sully in the last few minutes of Top Boy season three.

There have been various theories making the rounds online, including Stef being the killer and someone from the ZT’s gang.

An alternative theory has been it was Jaq (Jasmine Jobson) after Sully couldn’t “guarantee” she would be safe after stealing from him but with the drama now over, it’s very unlikely fans will ever know their identity.

Top Boy is available to watch on Netflix.
