Virgin River shares update as Netflix teases heartbreaking goodbye in series 5

Virgin River official trailer

It looks like Christmas will be coming early for Virgin River fans as Netflix has just revealed that the upcoming season will feature two special holiday episodes.

Season five will also air in two parts, with the first dropping on the streaming platform on September 7, and the second half arriving in perfect time for the festive period.

The latest season will have a total of twelve episodes, with ten being released in September and the final two-holiday episodes following on November 30.

And given how many cliffhangers viewers were left with at the end of season four, viewers won’t have too long to wait to see how the emotional storylines unfurl.

From the paternity of Charmaine’s (Lauren Hammersley) twins, to whether or not Cameron (Mark Ghanimé) will leave Doc’s (Tim Matheson) clinic and exactly what Denny’s (Kai Bradbury) prognosis is, there’s sure to be plenty of drama in the new episodes.

And from what Netflix has teased so far, things are only going to get more complicated for the beloved characters.

The streaming platform announced: “We’ll see surprising new relationships, a shocking break-up, a difficult court trial, a heartbreaking goodbye, and a wildfire that threatens the town, bringing some residents of Virgin River together while tearing others apart.”

Then there’s Mel’s (Alexandra Breckenridge) pregnancy, following her engagement to Jack (Martin Henderson).

And what’s going to happen with Vince (Steve Bacic), Paige (Lexa Doig), Christopher (Chase Petriw), and Preacher (Colin Lawrence)?

Virgin River sparks fan frenzy as Netflix drama lands season 6 renewal[LATEST]

According to Netflix, “Issues of motherhood push Mel to make a big decision about her future at the clinic while her pregnancy unexpectedly sparks an emotional connection to her past.”

There’s also Doc and Hope’s (Annette O’Toole) “respective impairments,” which “throw their identities into question.”

It’s not yet known what the holiday episodes will entail but fans will no doubt be happy to see Virgin River all decked out for the holidays.

But given that the romance drama has been renewed for another season, there will most likely be plenty more cliffhangers to come.

There could be a delay to the filming of season six, however, as a result of the current writers and actors strikes.

Seasons 1-4 of Virgin River are available to stream on Netflix, with part 1 of season 5 airing on September 7.
