She was born an only child and was brought up in Hertfordshire.

What has Amanda Abbington starred in?
Amanda starred as Miss Mardle in Mr Selfridge from 2013 until 2016.
She is also famous for her role as Mary Morstan, the wife of John Watson, played by her ex partner Martin Freeman, in Sherlock.
She played various characters in police drama The Bill until 2007.
During that time she also appeared in Wycliffe, Casualty, Dream Team, The Sins, Shades, Doc Martin, Coupling, and Teachers.

In 2023, Amanda starred in the four-part Channel 5 television series, Desperate Measures, as well as appearing in ITV's The Family Pile, and Netflix show Lockwood & Co.
In August 2023, it was announced that Amanda had joined the Strictly Come Dancing lineup, but she quit the show in October 2023.
When was Amanda Abbington married to Martin Freeman?
Amanda met Martin Freeman in 2000.
It was announced in 2016, that Amanda and Martin split after being together for 16 years.
In January of that year, it was revealed by The Sun that Martin was confronted by Amanda over a friendship with a showbiz researcher in the weeks before their shock split.
Furious Amanda was said to have raised questions over the unlikely friendship in the run up to the end of their 16 year relationship.
A source told The Sun at the time: “Amanda was absolutely furious about it – she confronted him over his relationship with the woman, who works in the business too, and demanded answers."
Does Amanda Abbington have any children?
Martin and Amanda share two children together.
They have one daughter called Grace and one son called Joe.
Neither Martin or Amanda has gone on to have any other children since their split.
