Who is Dustin Lance Black?

Tom Daley's husband is an American screenwriter and director, who has won multiple awards for his work.

The 48-year-old was born in Sacramento, California, and grew up in a Mormon household.

The family moved to Texas, before returning to California when Dustin's mother remarried.

Dustin has said that growing up in a religious household meant he worried about his sexuality and when he found himself attracted to a boy at age seven, he said to himself: "I'm going to hell. And if I ever admit it, I'll be hurt, and I'll be brought down."

But Dustin, who student Film and Theatre Television at UCLA School of Theatre, came out as gay in his senior year of college.

He is now an LGBT activist and a member of the American Foundation for Equal Rights.

When did Dustin meet Tom Daley and when did they get married?

Tom Daley and Dustin Lance Black met in 2013 and Tom later came out as gay that December, admitting to fans in a Youtube video that he had been dating a man since the summer.

Later it was revealed that Olympic diver Tom Daley's boyfriend was Dustin Lance Black, and the pair made their first public appearance at an event at Battersea Power Station in May 2014.

Tom said of meeting Dustin: "I'd never felt the feeling of love, it happened so quickly, I was completely overwhelmed by it to the point I can't get him out of my head all the time."

The pair live together in London and became engaged in 2015.

After a video emerged of Tom Daley engaged in cyber sex with a fan, the Olympic diver told The Sun that the encounter had happened during a seven-month break from his husband to be.

Tom added that his husband was aware of the video and the pair are now stronger than ever.

The couple married on May 6 and romantic Tom sang “Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art though, Romeo?” to his fiance before the ceremony at the fairytale Bovey castle.

Just 50 close friends and relatives gathered at the lavish five-star golf resort in Dartmoor national park, 30 miles from Plymouth, Devon, where Tom grew up.

Lance’s family flew in from California and the couple hired out the entire 58-room hotel for the weekend where rates start at around £200 a night

Although fans were worried when Tom revealed he was in hospital, just days before the wedding – clearly it wasn't enough to stop the big day.

On Valentine's Day 2018, the couple announced on Instagram that they were expecting their first child.

They were pictured holding the baby scan out to the camera as they hugged each other.

On March 5 Tom revealed the sex of the baby, confirming the couple would have a boy, and announced that it would be born via surrogacy.

In late June the pair announced the birth of their first child Robert Ray Black-Daley.

Robert was also the name of Tom's late father Robert, who sadly passed away as the result of a brain tumour in 2011.

What films has Dustin Lance Black worked on?

Dustin Lance Black is a screenwriter and director and has written work that gained him prestigious Hollywood awards, including an Oscar.

Dustin's first effort was a gay romance film called The Journey of Jared Price, which he wrote and directed.

In 2001, Dustin was hired to write on the HBO series Big Love, before he began work on a feature film about the life and work of the first openly gay American politician Harvey Milk.

The film, titled Milk, was eventually released in 2008 and was met with critical acclaim, earning Dustin a Writers Guild of America Award, as well as an Academy Award.

Dustin has since worked on more projects profiling influential figures, including AIDS activist Pedro Zamora in 2009.

Dustin also wrote the screenplay for J.Edgar, a film that starred Leonardo Dicaprio and was directed by Clint Eastwood.

In 2017, he even produced When We Rise, his own eight-part miniseries about the LGBT civil rights movement in the United States.
