Worst House on the Street viewers slam couple for ruining home with 'disaster' makeover | The Sun

THOSE who tuned into the latest episode of Worst House on the Street were left gobsmacked at the makeover's overall cost.

Some of its viewers even went as far as to call the renovation an "environmental disaster".

The Channel 4 series saw presenter duo Scarlette and Stuart Douglas introduce homeowners Gemma and Scott.

The couple, who met seven years ago in Dubai, purchased their new Victorian-era three bedroom home for £195,000.

They stated on the show that this seemed to be a huge bargain, as similar houses on that street sold for around £250,000 at the time.

They did however, admit that it was a neglected home which was in serious need of a makeover.

Scarlette even described the property as a "1960s time capsule".

During the show, the hosts were on-hand to give the homeowners some advice and contacts when it came to renovating on a budget.

Gemma, 34, told them that she knew the house had loads of potential, as her hubby Scott, 42, was well aware of what they were getting themselves in for.

The home needed a lot of work done, which left Scarlette and Stuart stunned when they found out there was only a £20,000 budget to play with.

However, a few weeks into the renovation, Gemma and Scott realised they'd severely underestimated how much everything would cost.

Luckily, they managed to borrow some money from friends and family, taking their budget up to £31,000.

After a lot of hard work, the couple absolutely transformed their home into a modern haven.

However, viewers were astounded that they'd managed to complete such a drastic makeover for only £31,000.

This caused many to claim they were lying about the total cost.

One wrote: "Absolutely no chance they did all that for £31k. Not on your nelly.”

Another said: “Needs there pricing book, those taps were more than that, not to mention the kitchen price."

As a third said: "No chance they did for 20k in 14 weeks.

"31k no chance what did all the furniture cost? #bulls**t".

Fans of the show also found fault with the couple's "disaster" decision to kit out the garden with fake grass and plastic plants.

One wrote: "Plastic grass and a load of plastic plants. . FFS. . Rest of it is good though.”
