3-week-old baby dies and woman, 26, injured as man arrested for murder | The Sun

A MAN has been arrested on suspicion of murder after an incident left a three-week-old baby dead and a woman injured.

Police charged to the scene in Sparkhill, Birmingham, just after 3.40am on Tuesday to reports of a baby unable to breathe.

The boy was taken to hospital by paramedics but tragically pronounced dead a short time later.

A 26-year-old woman suffered injuries which are not believed to be life-threatening in the same incident.

She was taken to hospital for treatment.

West Midlands Police said a 29-year-old was arrested at the scene on Dovey Road on suspicion of murder.

Detectives are not looking for anyone else in connection with the investigation.

Insp Neil Kirkpatrick, in charge of policing in the area, said: “This is a real tragedy and our thoughts go out to everyone involved.

“We’ll have extra officers in the area over the coming days to offer reassurance.”
