Aussie tourist who died in Bali farewelled at Gold Coast funeral

A 24-year-old woman who quit her job to live her dreams in Bali has been farewelled on the Gold Coast after her unexpected death on the holiday island.

Olyvia Cowley was laid in a white coffin and carried by loved ones into the Hillsong Church, in Highland Park, on Saturday.

Mourners comforted each other outside the church, dressed in bright colours as requested by the family to celebrate her life.

Sunflowers adorned the coffin with attendees also seen carrying the flowers. 

Ms Cowley died suddenly in her Bali villa on August 19, where she had set up to pursue her dream of opening a boutique clothing business.

Social media posts prior to her death showed her enjoying a poolside lifestyle on the Indonesian island after quitting her job in Australia.

The reasons behind Ms Cowley’s death have not been publicly released.

Ms Cowley’s sister Hope posted online before the service: ‘Today’s all for you my girl. I hope I make you proud sissy.’

She previously posted, ‘My darling girl. I hope you see all the light you shone on this earth and the lives you impacted, can’t wait to have you home to see the space that has been created for you.’

‘You would of absolutely loved all of it! You left so many foot prints on this earth my darling sister. I feel you always, see you soon my baby girl.’

Earlier this week, mother Christina Blakelock and her husband Tony travelled to Bali in order to return Ms Cowley’s body to Australia.

Ms Blakelock shared heartbreaking details of the experience in a Facebook post, saying the family had received overwhelming support from loved ones and strangers.

‘Broken. Shattered … But we still are blessed.

‘We know we have a peace that passes all understanding. There is no way I´d personally stand through this type of situation, with out our Lord and father above.’

‘Olyvia our baby girl, it´s time to go home now.’

Ms Cowley’s family asked mourners to wear bright colours while some were seen carrying sunflowers so they could celebrate the life of the 24-year-old

Ms Blakelock also shared herself getting a tattoo on her leg while in Bali of a sunflower with a butterfly in the middle, captioned, ‘My Sun. My Flower… For you.’

In a social media post, she shared the story of how both her and the tattoo artist bonded over both recently losing their young girl’s. 

‘His daughters name is Clareatte meaning most beautiful diamond. Both our diamonds now dance together,’ she wrote on Facebook.

A source close to the family told Daily Mail Australia Ms Cowley travelled to Bali in April and spent four months making preparations for her new business venture.

At the time she was ‘living the life [she’d] always prayed for’ they said.

Daily Mail Australia understands her boyfriend spent a few days visiting her in the week leading up to her death. 

Friend Tiarna Malcolm also posted a tribute this week, describing herself as a ‘lost little soul’.

‘I don’t know a world where you aren’t in it,’ she posted on Instagram.

‘Hold your loved ones so so tight and tell them how much you love them each and everyday.

‘Miss you so god damn much darling. Hope you’re livin it up, up there.’

A GoFundMe has already raised close to $15,000 to help Ms Cowley´s family with expenses.

‘To ease the financial pressure on the family moving forward I am asking for any donations if you are in a position to give,’ the page read.

‘We all know how much of an impact it can make when a community come together and the Cowley family are extremely grateful for the overwhelming love and support already. Let’s help this amazing family get through these next phases.’

Other friends also posted heartfelt tributes.

‘In loving memory of one of the most kindest, gentle, funny and loving friends. You brought nothing but happiness to every single person you came across. Rest In Peace Liv,’ one woman wrote.
