Boris Johnson 'considering' unlikely bid to replace Liz Truss as PM 'in matter of national interest' | The Sun

BORIS Johnson could stand again to be PM after he topped a poll from Tory members.

Liz Truss resigned as PM earlier today after overwhelming pressure from MPs.

And already MPs are lining up to say they could stand to replace her.

Former PM Mr Johnson is considering running too, it was revealed – but he faces a major hurdle.

MPs were last night openly speculating whether he would be willing to step in to calm the chaos.

But they said he would likely have to wait until after the privileges committee probe into whether he lied to MPs over after party gate – which is not expected to start for another few weeks.

Graham Brady, the chairman of the 1922 Committee of Tory backbenchers, said today a new PM will be in place by next Friday, October 28.

One Senior MP told The Sun: "Boris has got a mandate from voters, a mandate from the party. It could definitely happen."

If all Tory members get a vote, as expected – rather than just MPs – then he could be in with a shot at winning as he's still so popular with them.

According to a poll out this week, the majority of Tory members want Boris to replace Ms Truss.
