Climber, 80, dies after falling from 3,000ft mountain in the Scottish Highlands

An 80-year-old climber has died after falling from a 3,064-foot mountain in the Scottish Highlands.
Police received a report of a man who had fallen at Coire a’ Bhasteir on the Isle of Skye at around 3.05pm on Wednesday, July 26.
This prompted an emergency response, including 20 mountain rescue personnel and a helicopter.
Emergency services attended, but the man – who was described as an ‘experienced’ hiker – was pronounced dead at the scene.
The circumstances of his death are not believed to be suspicious, Police Scotland has said.

‘A report will be sent to the Procurator Fiscal,’ they added.
On Facebook, the Skye Mountain Rescue Team said: ‘On Wednesday afternoon, the team responded to a report of a fallen climber in Coire a’ Bhasteir. Sadly, the experienced male’s injuries were fatal.
‘Stornoway rescue helicopter R948, twenty mountain rescue personnel, and several passing climbers all assisted in evacuating the body from the mountain.
‘Our thoughts go out to the climber’s family and friends.’
Skye Mountain Rescue is made-up of 35 volunteers.
According to the group’s Facebook during the summer period there is a callout every two days.
