Isla may have set new record
Cyclone Isla has potentially set a record for sustained wind speed over a 10-minute period, according to the Bureau of Metereology.
The preliminary record was set in Bedout Island, which lies 42km offshore from Larrey Point and the mouth of the De Grey River on the Pilbara coast.

Ilsa made landfall between De Grey and Pardoo Roadhouse just after midnight (WST), the ABC has reported.

People staying in remote communities, mining camps and cattle stations in the system’s path have been encouraged to evacuate, or bunker down in cyclone-proof buildings.
Experts are predicting wind gusts of up to 280km/h, powerful enough to lift caravans, boats and trailers.
Heavy rainfall and flash flooding is also expected, with between 200 and 400 millimetres of rain.
