Eastern freeway crash deaths: Trucking boss manslaughter charges dropped on eve of trial

Manslaughter charges laid against trucking company manager Simiona Tuteru following the Eastern Freeway crash that killed four Victorian police officers have been dropped on the eve of his Supreme Court trial.

Tuteru, from Frankston, ran the Connect Logistics trucking company when employee Mohinder Singh crashed into the officers on April 22, 2020.

The 49-year-old was arrested and charged with four counts of manslaughter in the months that followed.

On Friday, prosecutors told Supreme Court Justice Lex Lasry the case would not proceed.

No explanation was given.

Other charges, relating to heavy vehicle national law, remain in place.

Leading Senior Constable Lynette Taylor, Senior Constable Kevin King, Constable Glen Humphris and Constable Josh Prestney died in the crash after pulling over speeding Porsche driver Richard Pusey.
