Local police are investigating the cause of the inferno, which has significantly damaged the two businesses inside, and is being treated as suspicious.

A crime scene has been established, and firefighters will remain at the scene on Saturday to monitor the area.

A warning was issued to local communities to stay inside on Saturday morning, which has since been downgraded.

Paramedics and police attended the scene. No injuries were reported.

Meanwhile, after four days of efforts, firefighters have contained the 1000-hectare blaze which ripped through a town north of Melbourne, destroying cars, farm sheds and livestock.

One hundred firefighters remain at the scene on Saturday morning to patrol the blaze, and ensure it stays within the containment lines.

Those containment lines were completed on Thursday night, through bulldozing and back burning, conducted predominantly on forested areas of private land.

Although the fire has been contained, it is expected to burn for weeks, or until the area experiences substantial rainfall. It will be monitored by fire crews during this time.
