An ‘extremely dangerous’ kidnapper who broke into a 67-year-old man’s house, tied him up and kept him captive for three days, has been jailed for 14 years.

Jason Daniels, 43, from Maidenhead, tied his victim up using duct tape after breaking into his house in Staines-upon-Thames on January 9.

The ‘callous’ criminal later kidnapped his victim, held him at knifepoint and forced the 67-year-old to transfer lump sums of money to his bank account.

The kidnapper was caught after the victim’s son turned up at his father’s house to check on his wellbeing to discover the 67-year-old looking ill and gesturing that someone was in the bedroom.

Surrey Police described the ‘traumatic’ incident as ‘like something out of a psychological thriller’ as detectives branded Daniels an ‘extremely dangerous and callous individual’.

Daniels has now been jailed for 14 years after he was arrested and found guilty of kidnap, robbery, and false imprisonment at Kingston Crown Court.

The horrifying incident began after the 67-year-old victim woken up by Daniels breaking into his house at 5am on 9 January.

The victim was in turn left on his bed, unable to move, after his eyes and mouth were covered and hands and feet were tied using duct tape.

Daniels later returned to untie his victim, at which point he forced him transfer a lump sum of money into his bank account.

The victim was then taken to his car, and driven to a multi-story car park in Maidenhead, before he was taken into an apartment block and blindfolded again.

He was then repeatedly forced to transfer sums of money to Daniels bank account, and tell the bank that the money was for construction work on his home.

The 67-year-old was told that if he failed to do what he was told, his sons would be hurt.

Daniels eventually told his victim to arrange a meeting with his son at his house, to assure him everything was alright after the son made repeated attempts to call his father’s phone.

Having taken the victim back to his house in Staines-upon-Thames, Daniels then hid in the ground floor bedroom, while the 67-year-old met with his son, in a bid to reassure him.

Daniels was jailed to 14 years in prison after being convicted of kidnap, robbery, false imprisonment, and possession of a blade at Kingston Crown Court (pictured)

The plan to reassure the son, however, backfired, after he noticed his father looked ill and that he appeared to be gesturing that another person was inside the house.

His son, in turn, called the ambulance, at which point the victim disclosed that he had been kidnapped and held against his will for three days.

Daniels was later arrested by Thames Valley Police driving his victim’s Range Rover close to the victim’s home address.

He was convicted and sentenced to 14 years for kidnap, 14 years and two months for false imprisonment, 14 years and two months for robbery, and two years and eight months for having a blade, with all sentences to run concurrently.

Investigating Officer, Detective Constable Claire Catcheside, said: ‘This was an extremely traumatic situation for the victim to be caught up in and this is reflected in the sentenced handed out to Daniels today.

‘This man is an extremely dangerous and callous individual who will be spending the foreseeable future behind bars where he belongs.’
