Glastonbury goers have slammed fans who set up a picnic in the middle of the 100,000 person crowd that gathered last night to see Elton John’s headline set.

The festival attendees were filmed sitting on garden chairs and a picnic blanket with glasses of wine while surrounded by the huge crowd gathered at the Pyramid Stage.

Fans in the swilling crowd slammed the ‘ignorance’ of setting up ‘deck chairs’ and drinking out of wine glasses ‘in the middle of a crowd of 100,000 people’

They lambasted the Pyramid Stage picnickers for acting ‘like Elton John is about to play in your back garden’ as they claimed the fans were blocking people walking through.

The video shows the festival goers sat on a blanket with a cooler bag and wine glasses as throngs of fellow Glastonbury fans stand around them.

Fans also hit out at the picnickers for setting up a flag as they claimed they were blocking the view of fellow concert watchers behind them.

‘In the middle of a crowd of 100,000 people you have to respect the ignorance to set up deck chairs and drink out of wine glasses like Elton John is about to play your back garden,’ Twitter user Ben Kelly said.

Twitter users also hit out at the ‘audacity’ of setting up a picnic in the crowd at Worthy Farm as they described the scenes as ‘an absolute joke’.

The condemnation come as Elton John’s ‘unique’ closing set attracted a huge crowd that even saw some fans queue from 4am to get a stage side spot.

More than 100,000 fans stood in sweltering 26C heat to watch a lineup that featured performances from Blondie and Lil Nas X.

The emotional set, which saw Sir Elton John perform a rousing rendition of Rocket Man, also marked the 76-year-old singer’s  ‘last ever UK performance’.

Wearing a gold suit, Sir Elton John ended the set by leaping off his piano stool and bowing in unison with his band.

The bow followed an emotionally charged set that saw Sir Elton John wipe away tears during a heartfelt tribute to singer George Michael, who would have turned 60 earlier this week.

The closing set followed two sun-filled days of shows from world famous acts including Guns N’ Roses, the Arctic Monkeys, the Foo Fighters, Lizzo, and Lewis Capaldi.

A team of volunteers is now working to clean up Worthy Farm, which has held Glastonbury festival since 1970.
