Ghislaine Maxwell has become ‘obsessed’ with playing softball – as she prepares to keep herself busy in the Florida prison she will call home for the next two decades.

The disgraced British socialite, 60, enjoys the sport so much that she has started playing competitive games, representing her prison wing.

Inmates have now dubbed the child sex trafficker ‘Dottie’ – after the character in the baseball movie A League of Their Own.

Lockdown conditions in Florida’s Tallahassee jail, where Maxwell is serving 20 years, have recently been eased, allowing cons more recreation time.

Ghislaine Maxwell once attended the most lavish events and consorted with the likes of Prince Andrew and Bill Clinton – but the disgraced British socialite now spends her time going for morning jogs around the barbed-wire fence of the Florida prison where she is serving 20 years for trafficking young girls for sex

A prison source told the Mirror: ‘Ghislaine is very popular among the girls. She is very sociable.

‘Straight away, she began mixing with others taking part in all manner of activities. She almost won musical chairs one day, getting down to the last two.

‘But it’s her love of softball she seems to most enjoy. Whenever there is a game, Ghislaine want to play. When she took to the field, they called her Dottie. It stuck.’

Although she once attended the most lavish events and consorted with the likes of Prince Andrew and Bill Clinton, she is now a key player in her B South unit’s softball team, beating bitter rivals A South unit and another wing.

The 1992 movie A League of Their Own features Dottie Hinson, played by Geena Davis.

Also starring Tom Hanks, the early 90s classic tells the true story of two sisters who join the first female professional US baseball league.

When not playing softball, Maxwell spends her time going for morning jogs behind the barbed-wire fence of the Florida prison.

Dressed in a prison issued grey sweater and matching shorts, Maxwell, 60, has been pictured slowly jogging around the yard of the low-security Tallahassee’s Federal Correctional Institute.

She will spend the next 20 years inside the same barbed-wire facility for grooming children so that her lover Jeffrey Epstein could sexually abuse them hundreds of times over more than a decade.

A prison source told the Mirror: ‘Ghislaine is incredibly fit. She runs almost every day, and when not jogging on the track, she will walk with one of her friends.

Danbury Federal Correctional Institution, which opened in August 1940, has held previous inmates including singer Lauryn Hill, reality TV star Teresa Giudice, and is thought to be the inspiration for the Netflix show ‘Orange is the New Black’

The disgraced socialite was convicted of playing a pivotal role in helping Epstein (pictured together), who killed himself in 2019 while awaiting trial, sexually abuse children hundreds of times over more than a decade, exploiting vulnerable girls as young as 14

‘For her age, she is incredibly active and does a 40 minutes session completing lap after lap without stopping before she needs to be back inside.

‘She is happy to be allowed out in the open once again, where she has at least some semblance of freedom.’

Maxwell is likely to serve her entire 20-year prison sentence in the facility, which has a softball pitch and pristine gardens, as there is no parole for federal prison. But she could potentially be released a few years early for good behavior.

Maxwell complained during her trial about being placed in Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center where she complained about the quality of the food and feeling isolated.
