Harrowing moment hammer attacker is shot as he brutally pounds female cop who screams for her life while opening fire | The Sun

THIS is the horrifying moment a police officer was violently attacked by a hammer-wielding man before shooting him in defence.

The incident allegedly began as the officer responded to a noise and breaking glass complaint in Middletown, Connecticut.

Detective Karli Travis arrived to the scene at 6:33am on August 12th, when she was approached by Tate.

Body-cam footage showed Tate stepping out of the home while carrying a blunt object in his hand.

The detective asked him: "Can you put that down, please?"

Tate yelled back: "No."

Tate was reportedly charged with criminal attempt to commit first-degree assault, second-degree assault, assault on public safety personnel, and interfering with police.

He was held on a £392,000 bond and is set to appear in court October 3.
