I left my wife for Ukrainian refugee… but now I’ve DUMPED HER – I know I look like a t*** but I couldn’t put up with her | The Sun

A MAN who left his wife for a Ukrainian refugee says he has now DUMPED her – claiming he couldn’t put up with her any more.

Security guard Tony Garnett, 29, walked out on Lorna, 28, after falling head over heels for 22-year-old Sofiia Karkadym.

Tony, 29, stunned his family by walking out just ten days after they welcomed Sofiia into their family home from war-torn Ukraine.

But now the dad-of-two claims he has thrown his now ex-girlfriend out of the home they had set up together after a series of rows.

He told the MailOnline: “I am 100 per cent through with her. We are finished as a couple.”

Tony said it was the final straw when the pair argued on Saturday night while celebrating his 30th birthday at their home in Bradford, West Yorkshire.

He added he ended up calling the police who attended the address.

Tony claimed he had “worked so hard” and “made every extra effort” to make the new relationship work.

He said: “I knew that we would look like t***s if we broke up because we have a media profile and all the attention that has been put on us on television and on the internet.

“I also genuinely felt sorry for her. She left her home and her country which was at war and knew nobody here.”

The row erupted when two other Ukranian refugees – Sofiia Rastorhuieva and her boyfriend Illia Tronevych – were staying with the couple.

The pair had moved in with Tony and Sofiia after he spotted a Facebook appeal from them asking for accommodation.

Tony has reflected it was now a “mistake” to start a new relationship with Sofiia.

But the dad says he has not abandoned his ex-girlfriend and even messaged her mum to get help.

He also wants to contact the local council and the Home Office to get Sofiia re-housed.

I am 100 per cent through with her. We are finished as a couple.

Tony said: “I hope that she finds somewhere safe to live and is in a happier place. But she’s not for me.”

Sofiia has sent a number of messages since they broke up, saying she loved him and wanted a reconciliation, Tony claims.

But he does not want her back and has accused her of “ruining” his birthday.

The pair had previously stated they wanted to get married.

Sofiia, who fled the city of Lviv at the start of the Ukraine war, previously told The Sun: “As soon as I saw him I fancied him.

“It’s been very quick but this is our love story. I know people will think badly of me but it happens.

"I could see how unhappy Tony was.”

ALL OVER

Lorna Garnett, who had changed her surname by deed poll to match Tony’s but is not married to him, previously told The Sun on Sunday Sofiia would wear low-cut tops and makeup to impress Tony.

She added: “She set her sights on Anthony from the start.

"Decided she wanted him and she took him.

“I just don’t understand how he could throw all that away for a woman he’s known for a fortnight. The life I knew is shattered.

“I would never put anyone off taking in refugees. This is a crisis in Ukraine and people like me will want to have the heart to help those in need."

The newly-single mum said she was left feeling like the "third wheel" in her former relationship and "unwelcome in her own home".
