I'm an eating champion – I want my daughter to follow in my footsteps

I’m a competitive eating champion who can demolish 10 cheeseburgers in four minutes – I want my 18-year-old daughter to follow in my footsteps

  • John Dawes, 43, is able to eat 20 sausages and a kilo of mash in five minutes
  • The eating champion now wants his 18-year-old daughter to continue his legacy

A competitive eating champion who is able to eat 10 cheeseburgers in four and a half minutes has said he wants his 18-year-old daughter to follow in his footsteps.

British champion John Dawes, 43, from Billingham, Teeside, is known as ‘the Beast’ for his ability to consume huge volumes of food in mere minutes.

The Amazon driver has proven his abilities to eat 20 sausages and a kilo of mash in under five minutes and consume 10,000 calories in a single sitting.

He is now training his daughter Katie, 18, in the art of competitive eating in the hopes she will continue his impressive legacy.

The 18-year-old’s rigorous training regime sees now sees the supermarket worker hit the gym, walk 15,000 steps a day and undergo fluid-only fasts before contests.

The father and daughter from Billingham, Teeside, also practice eating piles of burgers in their efforts to train up for food eating contests.

Mr Dawes said: ‘I’ve always knew I could eat fast, it was a battle to get my dinner down me before my sister would terrorise me by sticking her finger in my food, so I had to be quick.’

The champion first started eating competitively ‘about 10 years ago’ after trying a ‘flaming grill challenge’ and becoming ‘instantly hooked’.

He is now able to consume huge volumes of carb heavy food in minutes and runs his own YouTube channel to show his skills.

‘I can smash through a kilo of mash potato and 20 sausages in under five minutes,’ the competitive eating champion said.

‘I’ve demolished 10 cheeseburgers in four minutes and 30 seconds, a large pizza would only take me three minutes to get through and I’ve consumed 10,000 calories in one sitting.’

Katie’s training regime sees her walk 15,000 steps a day to burn off the excess calories

Mr Dawes now wants his 18-year-old daughter to follow in his footsteps and continue his competitive food eating legacy.

‘I always wanted Katie involved and she’s always been in my FoodandTheBeast Youtube videos,’ he said.

‘But I had to reel her in to her first competition with a bribe from my prize money to get her introduced to the competitive eating world.

‘Whilst making sure we hit 15,000 steps a day I also recommend to Katie to introduce herself into 24 hour fluid only fasting as this is what I do the day before a competition, heavy lifting also helps me whereas Katie goes to the gym to prepare.’

Katie Dawes, 18, a supermarket worker, previously took part in a bangers and mash challenge against her own father, after he decided to put his championship belt on the line.

She is now training up to improve her eating abilities after falling short at the sausage eating contest and claims it’s a brilliant way of making ‘memories’ with her father.

‘I hadn’t trained much before the bangers and mash competition but as the belt was on the line I thought it was worth a shot,’ the 18-year-old said.

Katie failed to take the championship title from her father in a pie and mash eating contest

”As soon as my dad took his last bite and finished I threw in the towel it was more than I could handle.’

‘I’m normally involved with the videos but attempting the challenges myself hasn’t been an aim, but after the fun I had with the bangers and mash challenge I’m ready to go again.

‘It’s lovely to see my dad so enthusiastic about it, I’m all for it, I love spending time with him and food challenges and competitive eating are things he really enjoys,’ she said.

‘It’s his number one pastime and for us to do that together and create memories is just brilliant.’
