Lawyer on over £100,000 warns people against becoming one as ‘it’s not worth it’
- London-based lawyer says the career is not worth it
- She’s been in the job for 10 years and makes a six-figure salary
A London lawyer on a six-figure salary has warned people against the career as it’s ‘not worth it.’
TikTok creator, Aydan Alsaad, posted a video on Monday where he questioned a lawyer about her job.
Despite being in the profession for 10 years, when asked to give advice to those in law school who aspire to be lawyers, the woman responded that ‘it’s really not worth it.’
Instead, she encouraged viewers to ‘do something that feeds your soul and not your wallet.’
The video is part of a series where Aydan approaches people on the streets and asks them about their careers, any advice they have, and whether they enjoy them – he’s interviewed a variety of people from theatre producers to data scientists.
The interviewee admitted that her career is not ‘feeding her soul’, but she doesn’t know what she would like to do instead.
She said ‘If I knew I would be doing it.’
Aydan then shoots some quickfire questions at the lawyer, where she answers in a brutally honest way.
He asks what her motto in life is, to which she responds ‘if you’re going to do something, do it well’ – something she has clearly stuck to in her own life to land her a whopping 6-figure salary.
However, is it worth it if her happiness is at stake?
She continued: ‘To be honest, I don’t have the imagination it requires to have your own business. It requires imagination and a discipline that comes from doing it for yourself and I don’t have that.
‘If I didn’t have to get up and be somewhere, I wouldn’t get up, unless it was like to do yoga.’

Although she feels like her job isn’t worth it, she admitted it does bring her some fulfilment as she gets to ‘use her brain.’
‘I like that a lot. I like when a problem is cerebral and I can solve it. I like that it requires a lot of EQ to deal with my clients, so those things together make it pretty good.’
She also said that her greatest fear is failure, which led a lot of commenters to praise her ‘authenticity’ and ‘vulnerability.’
One comment reads ‘I feel her! Not everyone wants to be a business owner or entrepreneur.’
Another says ‘This is the best interview so far! So relatable and most of us needed to feel that we’re not alone thinking the same thing!’
Other lawyers were also in agreement, with comments reading ‘This girl speaks on behalf of all lawyers (I am one)’ and another with almost two thousand likes says ‘Me, currently dying in law school.’
Comments on the video praise the lawyers honesty and authenticity
Not everyone is in agreement, one viewer said ‘you can feed yourself after work if you can afford to live’
Though the comments are mostly in agreement, some viewers have expressed the view that money is more important:
‘As someone that did something to feed my soul, I have to say: feed your wallet cause you can feed your soul after work if you can afford to live.’
Another reads ‘Your job doesn’t have to feed your soul if your life around it does.’
