Earlier, Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service said a ‘casualty’ had been rescued from the ‘submerged vehicle’ which crashed.

It added a ‘private motor vehicle had driven through a barrier and had entered the water with one person inside the vehicle’.

Residents of the Maritime Quarter have said the area is ‘severely restricted’ due to the ongoing ‘serious incident’.

A Welsh Ambulance Service spokesperson told MailOnline: ‘We were called today, at approximately 10:01am, to reports of a vehicle entering the water at Swansea Marina.

‘We sent four hazardous area response teams, one air ambulance, two Cymru high acuity response units, one duty operational manager and one emergency ambulance to the scene where we were assisted by colleagues from the Emergency Medical Retrieval and Transfer Service who travelled by air’.
