Police have launched a manhunt for a shoplifter who sprayed a ‘burning substance’ in the face of a Holland and Barrett staff member. 

The brave shop assistant had challenged the man as he attempted to walk out of the store with a bag of items he hadn’t paid for. 

When staff took the stolen items from him he sprayed a worker in the face before leaving the shop at Victoria Station in London.  

The substance caused a ‘burning sensation’ to the worker’s skin, eyes and throat.

When challenged a man who tried to steal from Holland and Barrett, he sprayed a worker in the face with a ‘burning substance’ before leaving the shop at Victoria Station (pictured) in London 

A BTP spokesperson said: ‘Officers believe the man in the image may have information that could help with their investigation.’

They added that anyone who may have witnessed the incident should contact them.
