Washington: Donald Trump’s Mar-a-Lago home has been raided by the FBI, according to the former US president.
In a sign that authorities may be circling in on the January 6 Capitol attack, Trump put out a statement on Monday evening stating that authorities had entered his home and broken into his safe.
“These are dark times for our nation as my beautiful home at Mar-a-Lago in Palm Beach, Florida, is currently under siege, raided and occupied by a large group of FBI agents,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social website.

“Nothing like this has ever happened to a President of the United States before. After working and cooperating with the relevant government agencies, this unannounced raid on my home was not necessary or appropriate.
“Such an assault could only take place in broken Third World countries, Corrupt at a level not seen. Sadly, America has now become one of those countries corrupt at a level not seen before they even broke into my safe!”

For the past year, a Congressional committee has been probing last year’s attack on the US Capitol, culminating in a series of explosive hearings that have accused the former president of knowingly inciting the incident as part of a deliberate and coordinated attempt to overthrow the 2020 election.
Separately, the Justice Department has been probing the discovery of boxes of records containing classified information that were taken to Mar-a-Lago after Trump’s presidency had concluded.
It was not initially clear whether the FBI search was connected to that investigation.
