THE next government must focus on regulation of social media rather than the Press, a Labour peer has said.
Lord Tom Watson issued the call to party leader Sir Keir Starmer ahead of an expected election next year.
The peer was a key campaigner for the Hacked Off group which demanded tougher regulation against newspapers after the Leveson Inquiry.
Campaign group Hacked Off also included support from actors Hugh Grant and Steve Coogan.
He said: “The context in which Leveson came about has changed.
“Politicians need to spend time looking at big tech companies who say they’re not publishers.”

But talking to the News Agenda podcast, Lord Watson warned Labour’s leadership not to reveal all their proposals too far ahead of the vote.
He told the News Agenda podcast: “If I was advising Keir, I would say ‘give yourself a bit of time.’”
