Perth boy dies after alleged ‘vigilante bashing’

Police have charged a Perth man over the alleged murder of a 15-year-old boy who died after being beaten in a suspected vigilante attack on his way home from school.

It’s understood the teen, who has not been named for cultural reasons, was walking with his friend on Lloyd Street in Middle Swan on October 13 when a car full of strangers pulled up alongside him and accused him of smashing car windows.

His family said the group had the wrong person.

The boy tried to flee but was allegedly bashed and suffered serious head injuries.

He was rushed to hospital but on Sunday died a week later after undergoing several surgeries while in an induced coma.

A 21-year-old Middle Swan man has been charged with murder and will appear in Midland Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Loved ones of the victim paid tribute to him online following news of his death.

“Rest in paradise my lil’ soldier sorry I wasn’t there when you needed me, I hope one day I get to see you again my lil’ shadow,” wrote one person.

“This world is so cruel, RIP … forever young,” wrote another.

Inquiries are ongoing into this incident and detectives have asked anyone in the area at the time, particularly anyone who may have seen a black ute in the area to come forward.
