Police are investigating a possible hate crime after a young Jewish woman was ‘violently assaulted and robbed’, the Met has said.
At around 4.30pm on Thursday, the 20-year-old was robbed on Rostrevor Avenue in Stamford Hill, north London, by two women who ran off towards the A10, the Metropolitan Police said.
She was reportedly left bruised, but did not need to go to hospital.
Footage of the incident circulated online after it was tweeted by neighbourhood watch group Shomrim.
The clip shows the victim walking along the path, followed by the two women, before one of them appears to hit her around the head twice.
She then crosses the road before she is grabbed by the two women and struck multiple times.
One of the women then pulls the victim onto the tarmac, before being pinned down and hit repeatedly. The pair then appear to take her belongings.
The two women then walk off down the street, as a group of people stop and check on the victim – who is still on the floor.
Detective Inspector Mike Herrick is leading the investigation from the robbery unit and said the woman was terrified.
He said: ‘This was a shocking incident and terrifying experience for the victim who was lucky to not receive more serious injuries.
