Police release footage of a suspect after woman is raped in Cheltenham

CCTV is released of a man hunted by police after a woman in her 40s was raped by a stranger as she walked near Waitrose in Cheltenham

  • The woman was raped near a Waitrose store in Cheltenham on August 6 at 5am
  • The alleged attacker was filmed on CCTV walking unsteadily across a bridge 
  • Gloucestershire Police are appealing for the public’s help to identify the suspect 

Police have released CCTV footage of a man they want to speak to in connection with a rape attack on a woman walking along a footpath in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, last month.

The victim, a woman in her 40s, was found in a distressed state by a member of the public on a former railway track named Honeybourne Lane shortly after 5am on Saturday, August 6.  

The CCTV footage released today shows the possible suspect walking unsteadily over a bridge shortly after the attack.

The suspect was not known to the victim and police are appealing for the public’s help to try and track him down.  

A Gloucestershire Police spokesperson said today: ‘The investigation has been ongoing, and it is believed a man raped the woman off the path shortly before 5am. The woman did not know the man.

‘Extensive CCTV enquiries have been taking place and police would now like to speak to the man pictured in connection with the ongoing investigation.

‘The man had walked across the Waitrose bridge, through the underpass under the bridge and onto the Honeybourne Line. He was last seen in Gloucester Road and Libertus Road.

‘Anyone who recognises him is asked to contact police by completing the following online form, and quoting incident 74 of 6 August.’
