Pregnant woman, 26, and her unborn child are killed in car crash while on her way to hospital to give birth in Brazil

A pregnant woman and her mother were killed on their way to the hospital in a horrific car crash that caused the vehicle to split in half.

Karolaine Vieira Palmeo, 26, and her unborn baby died after the accident in Brazil.

Tragically, the teacher had two previous miscarriages before losing her third child in the crash.

Her Onix car collided with another vehicle on her way to Cuiabá to give birth.

The other driver lost control in bad weather conditions on November 8, local media reported.

He allegedly crossed into the opposite lane and collided with the other vehicle as the road surface was wet.

Pictures show the severe damage as the Onix split in half and part of it was thrown off the road along with one of the passengers. 

Ms Vieira Palmeo’s mother, Ivonete, was also in the car and died at the scene.

Karolaine was taken to hospital and lost the baby, before dying hours later.

Her husband was also in the car and suffered mild head trauma fractures.

According to local reports, he is conscious but remains in hospital.

Ms Vieira Palmeo was said to have thrombophilia which is a condition that increases the risk of former blood clots and makes pregnancy difficult.

Maria Julia Palermo, Ms Vieira Palmeo’s cousin, told local media: ‘We are destroyed, everyone said goodbye hoping they would come back with one more for our family – three ended up leaving.

‘This child was very loved. Her dream was to be a mother.

‘Before Theo, she had two miscarriages, until she was able to maintain the pregnancy, as she had thrombophilia. The pregnancy was very difficult, that’s why she took the risk by going to Cuiabá.’
