Semi-naked Tinder snap of 'cop' posing in stab vest sparks probe

Semi-naked Tinder snap of 34-year-old ‘cop’ posing in force stab vest sparks probe by police standards department

  • The suggestive photo of the ‘cop’ was shared online after being found on Tinder
  • He is seen in a vest, holding a baton and covering his crotch with a police hat
  • Devon and Cornwall Police has said its standards department is looking into it

A semi-naked photo of an apparent police officer wearing a force stab vest has sparked a standards investigation.

Devon and Cornwall Police says it is looking into a dating app image which appears to show the cop holding a baton and covering his naked crotch with a police hat.

In a screenshot of the Tinder profile the man, who is white and has a shaved head, gives his name as Liam and says he is 34 years old.

The image was shared online on Sunday night by Dr Rebecca Tidy,  who obscured the man’s face with an apple emoji.

In the dating profile the person can be seen covering his crotch with a police hat, wearing a stab vest and holding a baton

Posting the image on Twitter, Dr Tidy raised it with the force, saying: ‘Hey @DC_Police. One of your lot? I decided against swiping right.’

In a follow-up tweet she joked: ‘Makes you miss the good old days where folk placed dating ads in the local paper’.

In response Devon and Cornwall Police said it was investigating the image to determine whether it is one of its officers, and that ‘action will be taken’ if he is a member of the force.

Devon and Cornwall Police has said it is investigating the image and will ‘take action’ if it is found to be a member of the force. Pictured is Devon and Cornwall Police Headquarters in Exeter

In a statement released yesterday evening, the force said: ‘We are aware of an image currently circulating on social media that appears to show a partially clothed male in police equipment that is being used as a profile on a dating app.

‘We are working with the Force Professional Standards Department and inquiries continue to establish if this individual is a serving police officer.’
