Shocking moment balaclava gang enter school grounds and strip minibus for parts that they then stroll out with

This is the shocking moment balaclava-clad thieves brazenly entered a school’s grounds before stripping a minibus for parts.

The footage shows the thieves at UTC South Durham cutting metal from the vehicle before making their exit through a sports court holding the bumper and other parts.

A student’s cycle was also stolen from the college’s bike shelter. Police were alerted to the incident, which took place last Sunday at around 6pm.

No arrests have yet been made and officers are now appealing for more information. 

Tom Dower, principal of the UTC, said: ‘This incident is deeply frustrating it has impacted on our students sitting exams and travelling to their place of work as well as being time-consuming and expensive to manage.

A student’s cycle was also stolen from the college’s bike shelter. Police were alerted to the incident, which took place on Sunday June 18 at around 6pm

Officers are appealing for more information but no arrests have been made at this time

‘However, I have been very proud to see our staff going above and beyond to ensure that our students’ high-quality education continues.’

A spokesperson for the school said the damage to the minibus had left the vehicle ‘un-roadworthy’ after a majority of the front was removed.

A Durham Constabulary spokesperson said: ‘Police were called to reports of  a burglary at South Durham UTC in Newton Aycliffe.

‘The incident is believed to have occurred on Sunday night.

‘It is believed the suspect stole a bicycle along with various parts from a minibus parked on the premises.

‘Enquiries are now ongoing.’

Shocked residents reacted to footage of the theft online with a mixture of anger and disgust.

One furious resident said: ‘Shocking, makes me so angry, we really have lost the plot in our country.’
