One person was killed and a suspected shooter is in custody after gunfire at Rose State College outside Oklahoma City on Monday. 

Police said the shooting happened after a domestic situation between two men on the campus. 

Around 12:20pm the Oklahoma-based college sent an alert to its community about a possible shooter. 

‘We are currently experiencing an active shooter situation on campus,’ Rose State University wrote on social media. ‘Please shelter in place and follow instructions from law enforcement officials. More information to follow as it becomes available.’

Rose State College asked its community to shelter in place after the reported shooting

A video from a KOCO showed yellow crime scene tape up near the university as police walked around the area. 

Officers questioned a person sitting on a bench inside the crime scene. 

A report from KOCO stated that one person was killed and that police said the shooter was in custody. The names of the shooter and the alleged killer have not been released. 

‘We understand that many of you may have questions about the ongoing situation on campus. We ask that you please refrain from speculation and follow the instructions of law enforcement officials,’ the university posted on social media. ‘We will provide updates as soon as we can.’

Police said the shooting happened after a domestic situation but have not provided further details. The shooting happened near the college’s administrative building. 

Officers from Midwest City police were on the campus when the shooting started, officials said. The confronted the armed suspect and ordered him to drop the weapon. 

The gunman followed their commands and surrendered to police. 

The university canceled classes for the rest of Monday.
