Storm Ciaran latest: Live updates as ‘danger to life’ weather warning issued for parts of the UK with strong winds and rain set to hit today

Met Office map reveals where rain will fall

Storm Ciaran will bring heavy and persistent rain across much of the UK with up to 3.1in (80mm) set to fall in some areas, as this map by the Met Office shows:

Brace for Storm Ciaran 'weather bomb'

Storm Ciaran will sweep across Britain with destructive 100mph gales and three inches of rain from 6pm this evening as rail operators issued ‘do not travel’ warnings.

The Met Office warned flying debris and flooding will bring a ‘danger to life’ while the storm could also cause ‘structural damage’ to buildings, with roofs potentially blown off, power lines and trees brought down, travel disruption and power cuts.

Amber wind warnings will activate for the entire south coast of England and parts of Pembrokeshire tomorrow, while widespread yellow rain warnings are also in place as one meteorologist said it ‘could be one of the most intense November storms’ ever.
