Surgeries have been cancelled at a private hospital in Melbourne’s north-east after a wooden pallet containing plasterboard sheets crashed through the ceiling and into the building’s lounge area.
No patients or health care workers were injured when a crane dropped the pallet onto Warringal Private Hospital, damaging pipes and causing flooding in parts of the building.
All surgeries and admissions scheduled on Thursday were cancelled.
A spokesperson for Warringal Private Hospital said they still had power and water in the building which was enabling them to continue to treat patients.
“We have acted quickly to ensure that everyone on site is safe, including patients and health care workers,” a spokeswoman said.

Both Ambulance Victoria and Fire Rescue Victoria attended the incident, which occurred shortly after midday on Thursday. Paramedics confirmed no one was injured.
The hospital spokesperson said all patients were moved away from the damaged areas.
“Around midday today, a crane operated by an independent construction company contracted to carry out development works at Warringal Private Hospital has dropped a pallet containing plasterboard sheets onto the building.
“This has caused damage to a ceiling in a lounge area on a ward and has also damaged pipes, causing flooding in certain parts of the hospital.
“We have acted quickly to ensure that everyone on site is safe, including patients and health care workers.
The hospital said it would provide an update about the resumption of surgeries.
